Why a WSGA Historian?
Efforts to remove or alter Black history in government agencies, national parks, and public education have intensified through policy rollbacks and executive directives targeting diversity initiatives. Simultaneously, digital platforms face scrutiny over content moderation and algorithmic suppression that critics argue limits the reach of educational material on systemic racism. Archival Preservation: Grassroots organizations, independent publishers, and digital networks work to back up endangered datasets and maintain independent repositories of cultural history of the WSGA. Gender-related dynamics within the Western States Golf Association (WSGA) focus on breaking structural barriers, advancing Black women in leadership, and providing dedicated sub-organizations to promote female participation.
Introduction
Dear Western States Golf Members.
I am excited to begin my duties as the WSGA Historian. For those who
do not know me, I am a long-time WSGA member through the Tee Divas
& Tee Dudes (TDTD) Golf Club, where I currently serve as the Chair
of the Junior Golf Program. During the past decade, I have also participated
in several WSGA Annual Tournaments and the Women in Golf North South
Shootouts, and I have been fortunate to win a few trophies.
In 2019, I chaperoned six TDTD juniors at the 39th Annual Allan Bennett Junior Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada. Due to COVID-19, that tournament marked the last time over 60 WSGA juniors would meet, play golf, and build lifelong friendships. This experience made a lasting impact on me, as these juniors represent the future of our organization. When the junior tournaments restarted, I signed on as a volunteer and now serve as the Assistant Tournament Director for the Allan Bennett Junior Championship.
Mission Statement
As your Historian, I look forward to working with President Lewis Braxton and the WSGA membership to document the significant moments and people who have shaped our history over the last 70 years. I believe that our rich history and the legacy we leave for future generations are vital components of why individuals choose to join or renew their membership with our organization.
